Louisiana Caps Off Perfect Home Season on ESPN 2, Clinches No. 2 Seed in SBC Tournament

The Ragin’ Cajuns completed their first season undefeated at home since 1972-73 and first in the Cajundome

LAFAYETTE – The Cajundome was electric Friday night as the Louisiana men's basketball team capped off their first undefeated season at home since the opening of the facility in 1985.  The Ragin' Cajuns did it in style, beating the hottest team in the Sun Belt Conference, South Alabama, on national television, 74-64.

Jordan Brown was nearly unstoppable, scoring 28 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while going 13-of-15, for his third double-double in as many games.  With the win the Cajuns clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's SBC Tournament in Pensacola, Florida and will face either ULM or Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals.

Brown had it going from the itp, scoring 11 of the team's first 13 points.  Neither side was able to get an inch though, trading the lead five times in the opening half.  Isaiah Richards banged home a bucket at the 9:08 mark to give Louisiana a three-point lead to match the highest lead in the game.  The Jaguars swung momentum their way to take a three-point lead of their own but the Cajuns wouldn't let them get any higher.

Terance Lewis II had a putback layup and Themus Fulks connected on a three-point play to erase the deficit and retake the lead.  Greg Williams Jr. hit a layup and Fulks followed with a jumper to keep the Cajuns ahead, but Owen White's three with four seconds put the Jaguars up 29-28 heading into the locker room.

The start of the second half was taken over by Brown, who connected from the field on each of Louisiana's first four possessions to build a four-point lead they'd never relinquish.  The Jaguars hung around, cutting the Cajun lead to one but Richards sank a pair of free throws and Brown hit another from the field to take a two-possession lead.

With the lead at just two and 11:30 to play, Brown's alley-oop from Michael Thomas brought the home faithful to their feet.  Moments later Thomas knocked home a three and Joe Charles slammed home a steal to give the Cajuns a 54-45 lead.  Back-to-back buckets by Lewis II pushed the lead to 12, but the Jaguars refused to go away.  The visitors fought to get back into the game, but the Cajuns went 11-of-12 down the stretch from the free throw line to clinch the undefeated home slate.

Thomas scored a career-high 10 points, with five points coming from the free throw line.  Jalen Dalcourt was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe to add 11 points off the bench.  The Cajuns dominated the boards, winning the battle downlow 40-27.
