Ragin' Cajuns face Trojans, Red Wolves in final week of regular season
TROY, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball team looks to move up in the Sun Belt Conference standings heading into next week's Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Basketball Championships when it opens the final week of the regular season at Troy on Tuesday at Trojan Arena.
Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. The game will be available on ESPN+. Fans in the Lafayette area can listen to the game on Hot 105.1-FM and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Louisiana (10-19, 7-9 SBC) never trailed after capping its home schedule last Saturday with a convincing 67-54 win over Texas State at the Cajundome. Jaxon Olvera scored 20 points off the bench for the Ragin' Cajuns, while Dorian Finister and Dariyus Woodson joined Olvera in double figures with 15 and 12 points apiece.
Todd Jones Jr., helped the Cajuns inside by scoring eight points, hauling down eight rebounds, and had a career-high five blocked shots, as Louisiana took a 32-28 advantage on the boards.
For the contest, the Cajuns were 22-for-45 from the field (48.9 percent), while holding Texas State to 37.3 percent, including 2-for-12 from beyond the arc.
Troy (18-11, 10-6 SBC) enters the week tied near the top of the Sun Belt standings and can secure at least a share of the regular-season title with two wins. The Trojans host ULM on Friday in the regular-season finale.
Troy dropped a 65-54 decision at South Alabama on Saturday, shooting a season-low 24.5 percent from the field and going the final seven minutes without a made basket. Cooper Campbell scored 26 points and hit a career-high seven 3-pointers in the loss.
In the first meeting of the season, Troy defeated Louisiana 90-70 on January 10 in Lafayette. The Trojans placed six players in double figures, outrebounded the Cajuns 42-19 and connected on 17 3-pointers, including 12 in the first half.
