The Louisiana Winter Classic field also includes Sun Belt-foe Southern Miss, Tyler JC and UTRGV. The Louisiana Winter Classic is an excellent opportunity for fans to get their first look at the Ragin' Cajuns - who are coming off last season's No. 61 ranking in the final ITA poll - this spring. It's the team's lone event at Cajun Courts in the month of February.
ABOUT LOUISIANA
Louisiana has its entire roster intact from the remarkable run last season that produced a 17-win season which included winning the prestigious H-E-B Tournament of Champions, rolling off a 14-match win streak and being ranked (No. 61) in the final ITA poll of the spring 2022 dual match season. The team's No. 1 doubles tandem of Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez entered the season in the Top 30 of the ITA's doubles rankings.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns recently completed a rigid, season-opening, five-match road stretch that saw the team face an opponent that was ranked in the ITA's final 2022 poll each time out. The list of formidable foes included Texas Tech (No. 41), Portland (No. 74), Washington (No. 39), Tennessee (No. 6) and Charlotte (No. 48).
Â
Last weekend the team concluded the January journey with an appearance at the prestigious ITA Kickoff Weekend, ending on a high note with a resounding 4-0 sweep of Charlotte by claiming the doubles point and keeping the pressure on with wins in the first set on every singles court. Early leaders for the Ragin' Cajuns include Kajin who is off to a 4-1 start in singles and senior Kacper Dworak (3-1) who brings a personal three-game win streak into the Louisiana Winter Classic.
Louisiana, although having its entire roster intact from the Spring 2022 success, Is adjusting to a new lineup in both singles and doubles as Oriol Fillat Gimenez, who posted 16 singles and 10 doubles wins last season, is out injured. That leaves Kajin and Sanchez Gonzalez as the lone returning doubles partnership and the need to replace Fillat Gimenez's production at No. 3 singles.
