Louisiana tips off the week with Wright State
ESTERO, Florida – Coming off a record-setting performance last time out, the Louisiana men's basketball team heads to Estero, Florida for the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Cajuns open the three-day event against Wright State on Monday, November 20 from the Hertz Arena.
Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT with coverage live on FloHoops. Fans can also listen live to the voice of the Ragin' Cajuns, Jay Walker, on KPEL 96.5 FM locally or worldwide via The Varsity Network app.
On Wednesday the Ragin' Cajuns had it going early and often from long range, sinking a program-record 18 three-pointers in a 107-56 win over Louisiana Christian. Kentrell Garnett connected on six and matched a career-high with 20 points. Joe Charles continued his hot start and recorded his third-straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
With the win, the Cajuns ran their home winning streak to 17 games and matched the second-longest in facility history.
Story Lines
• Louisiana takes on Wright State for the first time in program history. The Raiders are the second Horizon League opponent for the Cajuns this season. The Cajuns held off Youngstown State in the season opener 72-62.
• Joe Charles is the first Cajun since 1971-72 to record a double-double in the season's first three games. The junior is currently tied for the national lead in that category and one of four players with three double-doubles in three games this season. The only other Cajuns with back-to-back double-doubles to open the season were Shawn Long in 2013 and Elijah Millsap in 2007.
• Head coach Bob Marlin looks to become the second coach in program history to earn 250 wins at Louisiana joining Beryl Shipley.
• The Cajuns lead the nation in three-point defense. Opposing teams are shooting just 11.9 percent (5-of-42) this season after Louisiana Christian went 0-for-10 Wednesday night. The next closest team is New Hampshire at 17.9 percent.
• Louisiana last played in the Gulf Coast Showcase in 2018. The Cajuns finished third after defeating Colorado State and Tulane but fell to Toledo in the semifinals.
