Pair of Doubles Teams Reach Finals of Cajun Classic

The Cajuns had two doubles teams in the event’s finals and two singles players in the semis
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana men's tennis team had a strong showing in their own backyard over the weekend at the Cajun Classic at the Country Club at River Ranch.
The Cajuns were represented in the finals in both doubles flights and also had a pair of singles players reach the semifinals in both flights. Vasil Dimitrov and Mason Landreth made a run to the flight one finals, coming off a strong showing at the ITA Regional, where they fell to Xavier's Julius Hell and Vander Woody 6-4. William Ribero and Samuel Kyjaci represented the Cajuns in the flight two finals but were held off by Billy Suarez and Sam Scherer of Tulane, 6-2.
Ribero and Kyjaci would go onto the semifinals in their respective singles flights. Ribero, playing in flight one, fell in a three-set thriller to Tulane's Alex Bancila, 6-2, 6-7 (5) 6-0. Kyjaci fell in the flight two semis to Juan Accossatto of Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama, 6-3, 6-3.
Oriol Fillat Gimenez, Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez, Vasil Dimitrov, and Mason Landreth all won their opening round singles contests to reach the quarterfinals where they were knocked off. On the final day of the competition, Ribero and Kyjaci would win to claim third place in each flight while Landreth also earned a singles win in a consolation match.
The Cajuns are back in action next weekend in Birmingham, Alabama at the CCB Collegiate Invite.
