Men's Tennis Finishes ITA Kickoff Strong With Sweep of Charlotte

Dominant performance closes out season-opening, five-match road stretch
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team closed out its appearance in the prestigious ITA Kickoff Weekend with a resounding 4-0 win over Charlotte on Saturday, January 28 at the Knoxville, Tennessee Regional in the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Ragin' Cajuns (2-3) finished with a split in their first appearance in the ITA Kickoff Weekend since 2015, rebounding from a 4-0 loss to No. 11 Tennessee on Friday. By capturing the consolation match of the Tennessee Regional, Louisiana finished in third place.
The win over the 49ers (2-4), who finished No. 48 in the ITA's final 2022 rankings, ends the Ragin' Cajuns' season-opening, five-match road stretch against rigid competition on a high note. The squad is scheduled to make its home debut next weekend from Friday-Saturday, February 3-4 hosting the Louisiana Winter Classic, an eight-team event, at Cajun Courts.
The path to Saturday's win was initiated by strong performances at the top in the doubles round of the match. It started with the No. 30-ranked pairing of Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez posting a decisive 6-2 win on Court 1 and shortly thereafter the point was clinched with the 6-3 convincing win on Court 2 by Vasil Dimitrov and Kacper Dworak.
Every Louisiana player claimed the opening set once singles got underway, keeping the pressure on Charlotte. Then with second set victories in succession from Dworak, Kajin and lastly Calin Postea the Ragin' Cajuns clinched the match victory.

Louisiana makes its official home debut of the Spring 2023 dual match season from Friday-Saturday, February 3-4 at Cajun Courts hosting the Louisiana Winter Classic, an eight-team tournament, presented by Barton Advisory Services.
Joining Louisiana for the two-day, three-round competition is current Sun Belt-foe Southern Miss, UTRGV, Abilene Christian, former Sun Belt-member UT Arlington, Tyler Junior College, Nicholls and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The draws will be announced on Monday, January 30.
Play is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. both days (pending weather temperatures). The matches involving Louisiana each round will be played at Cajun Courts. All other matches each round will be contested at the Bourgeois Hall courts (located directly behind Cajun Courts and softball's Lamson Park).
