LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team is scheduled to make its home debut of the Spring 2023 dual match season at Cajun Courts from Friday-Saturday, February 3-4 hosting the Louisiana Winter Classic, an eight-team tournament event, presented by Barton Advisory Services.
Joining Louisiana for the two-day, three-round competition is current Sun Belt-foe Southern Miss, UTRGV, Abilene Christian, former Sun Belt-member UT Arlington, Tyler Junior College, Nicholls and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Play is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. both days (pending weather temperatures).
The tournament schedule format is listed below. The draws will be announced on Monday, January 30.
The matches involving Louisiana each round will be played at Cajun Courts. All other matches each round will be contested at the Bourgeois Hall courts (located directly behind Cajun Courts and softball's Lamson Park).
Admission to the tournament - and all home matches throughout the season - is free of charge for all and open to the public.
The Louisiana Winter Classic is an excellent opportunity for fans to get their first look at the Ragin' Cajuns this spring. It's the team's lone event at Cajun Courts in the month of February.
Louisiana has its entire roster intact from the remarkable run last season that produced a 17-win season which included winning the prestigious H-E-B Tournament of Champions, rolling off a 14-match win streak and being ranked in the final ITA poll of the spring 2022 dual match season. The team's No. 1 doubles tandem of Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez entered the season in the Top 30 of the ITA's doubles rankings.
The Ragin' Cajuns (1-2) are closing out their season-opening, five-match road stretch participating in the prestigious ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Knoxville (TN) Regional from Friday-Saturday, January 27-28. Louisiana faces No. 11 Tennessee on Friday (Jan. 27) at 12:00 p.m. (CST) in the opening round, then meets either Oklahoma or Charlotte in the championship or consolation match on Saturday (Jan. 28).
