Host-Washington outpaces Louisiana to protect its home court

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team was dealt a 5-2 setback by Washington on Saturday, January 21 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, concluding their Pacific Northwest venture with a 1-1 mark.

The host-Huskies (2-0) seized the momentum early when they secured the doubles point on Court 1 after Dzianis Zharyn and Cesar Bouchelaghem outlasted Louisiana's No. 30-ranked pairing of Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez in a 6-4 bout.

UW, coming off a No. 39 finish in the 2022 ITA final rankings, wouldn't relinquish control, proceeding to win the first four single matches that finished to stretch the lead to 5-0 and clinch the match victory.

Louisiana (1-2) closed out the match winning on the remaining singles courts. Kajin improved his season record to 3-0 after completing his 6-4, 6-3 win over Rikuto Yamaguchi on Court 4 and Kacper Dworak made it a 2-0 weekend in Seattle with his 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 10-6 triumph over Nedim Suko on Court 5.

Kajin extended his best start of a season in singles of his collegiate career and with Dworak's win the Ragin' Cajuns remained unbeaten (3-0) at No. 5 singles. Freshman William Ribero, who manned Court 6, made is collegiate debut.
