Louisiana Sets School Record On Opening Day at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE – The team of Baptiste Depril-Dupre, Javed Jones, Nathan Fontan and Peyton Chaisson recorded a school-record in the men's distance medley while Nick Russell and Kashie Crockett each posted top-3 finishes to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team during the opening day of the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
The final day of the two-day event begins on Saturday at 10 a.m. The event will be streamed live on SEC Network+ (beginning at 11 a.m.) with live results available at RaginCajuns.com.
Louisiana clocked a time of 10:06.07 to eclipse the previous record (10:07.35) set last year by Chaisson, Brandon Rhone, Depril-Dupre and Louden Boudreaux and finish fourth overall in the event.
Russell and Timothy Gale each cleared 15-9 in the men's pole vault for Louisiana with Russell finishing second overall and Gale fourth. Rylan Theyard posted a fourth-place finish in the men's high jump, clearing the bar at 6-9, while Tyren Hannah was 14th in the men's weight throw (56-10¾).
Crockett clocked a time of 21.44 to finish third overall for the Ragin' Cajuns in the men's 200-meter dash with Brock Appiah (22.11) placing 11th.
Taylor Davis earned a fourth-place finish in the women's high jump (5-9) for Louisiana with Kennedy Washington finishing ninth (5-1¼). Marin Barras (50-3½) and Brooklynne Wilson (47-8) were 15th and 18th respectively in the women's weight throw with Shemia Odaine finishing 13th in the women's long jump (18-9¼).
A pair of Ragin' Cajuns – Luke Benoit and Gavin Jaime – were in the top-8 after the first day of the men's heptathlon. Benoit finished the opening day in fifth place with 2,643 points with Jaime eighth at 2,567.
