Ragin' Cajuns go the distance to collect first win of the seasaon
SEATTLE, Wash. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team broke into the win column in the Spring 2023 dual match season by capturing a 4-3 win over Portland on Friday, January 20 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle, Washington.
Alejo Ferrer Chueca, who bounced from a 1-0 deficit at No. 3 singles, clinched the match victory for the Ragin' Cajuns (1-1) after he held off Nicolas Ocana in three sets. Ferrer Chueca claimed the final four points of the third set to capture the 6-3 triumph that officially turned away the Pilots (0-1).
The win allowed Louisiana to rebound from the season-opening loss at Texas Tech last Sunday and marked a quality win over the nation's returning No. 74-ranked team.
Success at the top two positions in doubles, starting with No. 30 Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez picking up their first win of the season, paved the Ragin' Cajuns way to claiming the point. The 1-0 lead was secured after Vasil Dimitrov and Kacper Dworak captured the tiebreaker (7-4) at No. 2 doubles.
The Pilots pulled ahead briefly after claiming victory on the first two singles courts to finish (No. 4, No. 1). Louisiana countered and reclaimed the lead following Dworak's 7-5, 7-5 win over Fabian Gusic on Court 6 and Kajin's besting of Nikolas Tvedt on Court 5 by a 7-6, 6-4 count.
The final outcome then came down to the two courts that were extended to a third set where Ferrer Chueca's heroics was the answer to Portland's No. 2 Eleftherios Neos evening the match at 3-all.
