Daigle's Top-10 Finish Leads Louisiana at Chili Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophie Daigle posted a top-10 finish and turned in the top 5K time among state runners this season after clocking a personal-best time of 16 minutes, 39.6 seconds and leading the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Cross Country team at the University of Arkansas' Chili Pepper Festival on Friday at Agri Park.
Daigle's time was nearly a minute faster than her previous 5K event this season - a time of 17:26.0 set at ULM's Warhawk Invitational. The senior placed eighth overall in a field of 276 runners as Louisiana finished 22nd overall in the 31-team event. Haley Salsbury finished in the top 100 after completing the course in a career-best 18:23.2 with freshman Brooke Spalitta finishing in 18.59.9, Rosalie Michot a career-best 19:21.2, Caroline Spalitta (19:25.7) and Ava Lemoine (20:34.3) following.
Freshman John Walker McDonald led Louisiana's men's team in the John McDonnell Memorial 8K run after covering the course in 26:03.4. Samuel Avants recorded an 8K personal best time of 26:15.4 for the Ragin' Cajuns, who finished 31st overall, with Jacob Marcinkus (26:30.0), Ty Frazier (26:33.9), Peyton Chaisson (26:42.9) and Chapin Stewart (27:06.0) following.
Louisiana will return to action on Oct. 15 when it travels to College Station, Texas for its final tuneup prior to the Sun Belt Conference Championships when it competes in the Arturo Barrios Invitational.
