Trip to Southern Miss Invitational Continues Fall Play for Men's Tennis

Play begins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday at USM Tennis Complex
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team returns to the courts for its second weekend of fall action, competing in the Southern Miss Invitational from Saturday-Sunday, September 24-25 at the USM Tennis Complex in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
The two-day, five-team event will start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the USM Tennis Complex is free.
Louisiana will be joined by host-Southern Miss, New Orleans, South Alabama and Tulane.
The teams will be paired against one another for doubles in the morning and singles in the afternoon, alternating opponents each session. The format is similar to last weekend's Lake Charles Hidden Dual.
Consistent with standard college fall tennis customs, all players will play as individuals and there will not be team scores.
Below is Louisiana's schedule:
Saturday
10:00am: Doubles vs. South Alabama
10:45am (or later): Doubles vs. New Orleans
1:30pm: Singles vs. Southern Miss
Sunday
10:00am: Doubles vs. Southern Miss
10:45am (or later): Doubles vs. South Alabama
1:30pm: Singles vs. New Orleans
It's the second consecutive weekend of fall tennis action for the Ragin' Cajuns who opened the Fall 2022 season with the Lake Charles Hidden Dual at the Lake Charles Racquet Club from September 16-18.
The first weekend of play for Louisiana was highlighted by the No. 1 doubles tandem of Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez going a perfect 3-0, highlighted by 6-3 win over South Alabama's Jack Clements and Sébastien Collard and a 7-5 win over Sebastian Rodriguez and Alan Magadan of UTSA.
Freshman William Ribero shined for the Ragin' Cajuns in singles in Lake Charles, coming away victorious in all three of his matchups.
ABOUT LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off a season that saw the squad finished ranked in the final ITA poll (at No. 61) and post the best start (15-1) and win streak (14 matches) in the 2000s era, in their debut with head coach Luc Godin.
Louisiana returns every player from its 2021-22 squad which produced a 17-win season in the Spring 2022 dual match portion, including All-Sun Belt performers Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez, Oriol Fillat Gimenez, Vasil Dimitrov, Calin Postea and Karlo Kajin.

Louisiana will send select individuals to compete at the ITA Men's All-American Championships which begins October 1-4 with the qualifying rounds.
The event will be held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa and Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
