Louisiana Cross Country Begins Season In Big Easy

LAFAYETTE – The first of five events for the 2022 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Cross Country team begins on Friday when they compete in the UNO XC Opener at Lake Oak Park near the University of New Orleans campus.

The women's 4K will get underway at 6 p.m. with the men running in a 5k event starting approximately 45 minutes later. Joining Louisiana and host New Orleans in the season-opening event include Dillard, Loyola, LSU, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana, Tulane and Xavier.

Louisiana, which , will also compete in meets at ULM (Sept. 17), Arkansas (Sept. 30) and Texas A&M (Oct. 15) before the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 29 in Foley, Ala.

Sophie Daigle and Baptiste Depril-Dupre will look to lead a Ragin' Cajuns squad that will have 11 freshmen and a combined 20 upperclassmen.

"We are very excited to get this season going," head coach Lon Badeaux said. "This team has really grown and matured over the last year and with the addition of Sophie Daigle, Baptiste Depril-Dupre along with the other new recruits, we feel like this group is leaps and bounds better than the season prior."

Senior Rashid Reese and the junior tandem of Samuel Avants and Caedmon Kyles return on the men's side for the Ragin' Cajuns while Meredith Hebert, Rosalie Michot and Haley Salsbury are returning runners on the women's side.
