Comeback Bid Falls Short for Men's Tennis in Troy

No. 48 Louisiana forces last two active singles into a third set before Trojans escape
TROY, Ala. - Troy was able to stop a string of singles victories by the No. 48-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team and hold on for a 4-2 win in a Sun Belt Conference match on Sunday, April 3 at the Jimmy C. Lunsford Tennis Complex.
Louisiana (17-4, 4-2 Sun Belt) was on the comeback trail after falling behind 3-0 in the match, getting wins from Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez on Court 1 and Oriol Fillat Gimenez on Court 3 to climb back into the match at 3-2.
Alejo Ferrer Chueca won his second set at No. 6 singles to force a third frame and Calin Postea was battling at No. 4 singles, also in a third set, giving the Ragin' Cajuns an opportunity to overcome their early deficit.
Postea was in a 4-3 battle with Noah Martens when Christopher Tasker slipped by Ferrer Chueca 6-4 to close out play on Court 6 and clinch the match for the homestanding Trojans (14-9, 2-3 Sun Belt).
The Ragin' Cajuns, who fell 5-2 on Saturday in Mobile to South Alabama to begin the weekend road trip, were dealt a second straight defeat. It's the squad's first back-to-bak defeats of the spring 2022 dual match season.
Louisiana fell to third place in the Sun Belt Conference standings and now must await the results of the Wednesday, April 6 matches involving South Alabama and Georgia State to determine if the squad can obtain a share of the regular season championship.
