PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - The No. 60-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team begins its quest for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title on Thursday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m. (CDT) in a quarterfinal round match against UT Arlington at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.

The Louisiana-UTA winner advances to the Friday, April 15 semifinal round match at 1:00 p.m. (CDT), meeting the winner of Thursday's other 1:00 p.m. (CDT) quarterfinal match between No. 2 seed South Alabama and No. 7 seed Georgia Southern.
Louisiana (17-5), the No. 3 seed in the tournament, seeks its first win in a Sun Belt Conference Tournament match since the 2015 season. The program is going after its first tournament title since 2014.
Louisiana and UT Arlington (12-11) met roughly one month ago in Arlington, Texas with the visiting Ragin' Cajuns claiming a 4-3 win, a triumph that capped off the squad's season-best, 14-match winning streak. With the match on the line, first team All-Sun Belt selection Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez outlasted Miguel Cabrera 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to wrap up the match in favor of the Ragin' Cajuns.
A LOOK AT LOUISIANA
Despite a current three-match losing skid, that included falling in back-to-back road Sun Belt outings at South Alabama and Troy, the Ragin' Cajuns have competed at an extremely high level all season long under first-year head coach Luc Godin. The squad built a 17-win regular season on the strength of the aforementioned 14-match win streak which included quality wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Rice, Texas Tech, ETSU and UTSA and along the way captured the title at the prestigious H-E-B Tournament of Champions. Louisiana has been ranked in the ITA Division I Men's Tennis rankings each week since Feb. 23, a run that included six consecutive weeks inside the Top 50 (Feb. 23-Apr. 6).
Louisiana secured a Top 3 seed in the SBC Tournament by racing out to a 4-0 start in league play which included an impressive 4-1 win over No. 1 seed Georgia State back on March 27 at Cajun Courts in Lafayette. In the win over GSU, the Ragin' Cajuns posted four consecutive singles wins, highlighted by Sanchez Gonzalez's win on Court 1 over GSU's Andrei Duarte, to bounce back after dropping the doubles point.
Singles play has been the hallmark of Louisiana's success this spring. Sanchez Gonzalez (15-5) and fellow All-Sun Belt honorees Oriol Fillat Gimenez (16-4), Vasil Dimitrov (15-7) and Calin Postea (14-4) comprise the team's quartet of double-digit winners and have combined for 60 of the 77 singles victories.
Starting with the Georgia State match on March 27, Sanchez Gonzalez was bumped up to No. 1 singles, after 12 wins at No. 2 singles, and responded with a 3-1 showing. He along with Fillat Gimenez and Postea are riding two-game win streaks and are coming off impressive wins in last Thursday's match with current No. 40-ranked Florida Atlantic.
Fillat Gimenez, the Sun Belt's Player to Watch award winner, is the team leader in wins boosted by a 13-game win streak from Feb. 5 through March 18. Dimitrov ranked second on Louisiana's squad and Top 5 in the Sun Belt with 15 overall wins, proving to be a strong anchor for the Ragin' Cajuns at No. 6 singles with a 9-2 mark at the position. Postea excelled at various positions for the Ragin' Cajuns, posting at least four singles wins at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
The Ragin' Cajuns postseason run will come with an adjusted doubles lineup following an injury to Karlo Kajin who was paired with Sanchez Gonzalez at No. 1 doubles and had recorded a 12-6 mark.
THE OPPOSITION
The Mavericks arrived in Peachtree City having suffered a similar fate as the Ragin' Cajuns with back-to-back losses on the South Alabama-Troy road swing. The squad finished 1-5 in the regular season portion of the Sun Belt slate, the lone win coming over Georgia Southern.
Alan Sau Franco leads the Mavericks as the 2022 First Team Single All-Conference selection sits with 19 wins on the season and went 3-1 against Sun Belt opponents as UTA's primary No. 1 player. Miguel Cabrera (16), Maks Lukman (13), Daichi Akiyoshi (11), Ricardo Alban (11) and Solano Caffarena (11) have also recorded double-digit win seasons.
In doubles action, Anton Shepp and Cabrera have led the Mavericks with an 8-6 record, including five wins on court one.
