Marler, Ortego Lead Ragin' Cajuns at Windy, Rainy All-American

Final round of play begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday

HUMBLE, Texas Jake Marler posted a 1-over-par 73 in the morning session while freshman Eli Ortego posted a team-low score of 3-over-75 in the afternoon to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team during the first day of the All-American Intercollegiate on Monday at the Golf Club of Houston.
 
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played on Tuesday beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Louisiana, which finished in 16th place at 614, will be paired with Sun Belt Conference opponent Georgia State in the final round. Live results will be available at GolfStat.com.
 
With the 17-team field battling wind and rain for much of the day, Marler paced the Ragin' Cajuns in the first round posting an even-par 36 on the front nine. Marler recorded a pair of birdies in the opening round – both on par 5's. Ortego added a 2-over 74 in the opening round, who began the day with the first of two birdies in the round.
 
In the afternoon session, Ortego shot a 1-under-35 on the back nine and posted the low round for Louisiana. Marler, who was aided by a bogey-free mark on the back nine, posted a 4-over 76 in the second round.
 
Peter Hinnant (80-77-157), Charlie Flynn (82-77-159) and Hunter Hammett (85-81-166) rounded out the lineup for Louisiana.
 
No. 33 Florida State posted rounds of 296 and 273 to claim the first-day lead at 569 and 17 strokes ahead of second-place Houston. North Texas (587) and Sam Houston (587) were tied for third with Mississippi State (591) rounding out the top five.
 
FSU's Frederik Kjettrup of Florida State, ranked No. 17 nationally, and Sam Houston's Bret Gray, competing individually, finished tied for first place after 36 holes and 3-under-141. Mississippi State's Ruan Pretorius and Cole Anderson of Florida State were one stroke back at 142.
