LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team begins a stretch on Wednesday where it plays 12 of its next 16 games on the road when it heads west along I-10 to face in-state rival McNeese at Joe Miller Ballpark.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game can be heard in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) with live results available at RaginCajuns.com.
Coming off a series win over Houston last weekend, Louisiana (8-7) plays its final non-conference game before opening Sun Belt Conference play on Friday at Troy. The Ragin' Cajuns, who will play five straight games on the road beginning with McNeese (10-7), will play five straight games on the road as they will face the Trojans in a three-game series before wrapping up the road trip on Tuesday at Nicholls.
Louisiana, which will host South Alabama (March 25-27) and Georgia Southern (April 1-3) in SBC series, will play games at Southeastern Louisiana (March 29), New Orleans (March 30), a pair of games at Louisiana Tech (April 5-6) and Arkansas State (April 8-10) before returning home to host McNeese on April 12 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
The Ragin' Cajuns erupted for a season-high 17 hits in Sunday's 10-1 win over Houston as Carson Roccaforte posted four hits with Heath Hood and Kyle DeBarge collecting three hits apiece.
Roccaforte (.392-3-21), the SBC leader in RBI, Connor Kimple (.302-3-13), Hood (.300-2-8), Tyler Robertson (.283-0-4) and DeBarge (.281-0-6) are Louisiana's top performers at the plate. Roccaforte keys a Louisiana attack on the base paths with eight stolen bases with Robertson (6 SBs), Kimple (5 SBs) and Max Marusak (5 SBs) following.
Sophomore Peyton Havard (1-1, 4.00 ERA) will start on the mound for Louisiana with McNeese's starter to be determined.
The Cowboys, who are hitting .279 at the plate as a team, are led by Tre' Obregon with a .357 average followed by Brad Burckel (.344) an Payton Harden (.323). Five players have combined for 10 of McNeese's 11 home runs hit as a team this season while Julian Gonzales leads the Cowboys on the basepaths with eight stolen bases.
Louisiana leads the all-time series against its I-10 rival, 99-76. The teams split the season series in 2021 with both teams earning a 4-3 victory on its home field.
