Ragin' Cajuns Complete First Day of Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE – Freshman Eli Ortego recorded an even-par 72 in both rounds and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns concluded the first day in 14th place overall at the 37th annual Louisiana Classics on Monday at Oakbourne Country Club.
The final round of the 54-hole event will begin on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. Louisiana will tee off at the No. 10 tee beginning at 7:39 a.m. The final round will be available on ESPN+ beginning at 9:15 a.m., with live results available at GolfStat.com.
Ortego finished the first day of the two-day event in a tie for 25th place at 144 overall with Peter Hinnant (73-76-149), Jose Dibildox (72-77-149), Charlie Flynn (75-75-150) and Hudson Dubinski (80-75-155) rounding out the "A" team lineup.
Hunter Hammett paced Louisiana's "B" team after posting rounds of 4-over-76 and even-par 72 to finish tied for 48th at 148 with Jake Marler (77-75-152), Matt Weber (74-79-153), Justin Caldwell (77-77-154) and freshman Burke Alford (78-82-160) following.
No. 21-ranked Texas A&M – the 2018 Louisiana Classics champion – posted team scores of 272 and 270 to hold a 15-shot lead over No. 25 LSU (557). North Texas (561), Kansas State (568) and Houston (569) rounded out the top five with No. 17 Ole Miss (571), No. 41 Little Rock (575) finishing sixth and seventh.
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett, the No. 2-ranked golfer in the country, posted consecutive rounds of 6-under 66 to finish three strokes ahead of Diego Prone of North Texas in the individual results.
