Ragin' Cajuns Duo Lands in Top 30 of ITA Men's Doubles Rankings

Strong fall season places Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez in select company
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team's doubles pairing of Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez earned a Top 30 ranking following the conclusion of the fall season, it was revealed on Wednesday (November 16, 2022) as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the NCAA Division I Men's ITA Collegiate Tennis National Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Ragin' Cajuns duo was ranked at No. 30 in the ITA's doubles rankings following an impressive 8-2 showing in the fall portion of the team's 2022-23 season. They were the second-highest doubles team in the state of Louisiana and within the Sun Belt Conference.
Kajin and Sanchez Gonzalez's started the fall strong with a 3-0 showing in the Lake Charles Hidden Dual, picking up wins over Tulane, UTSA and South Alabama, and later earned three victories at the ITA Southern Regional Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They finished with an appearance in the finals of Flight 1 doubles in the Cajun Classic at City Club in Lafayette, defeating LSU's Julien Penzlin and Welsh Hotard by a 6-1 count on the path to the championship match.
The performances this fall was the continuation of a strong partnership established by Louisiana's No. 1 doubles pairing last spring. Kajin and Sanchez Gonzalez earned second team All-Sun Belt honors in the Spring 2022 dual match season after recording a 12-6 overall mark which included a 4-2 record in Sun Belt Conference play. They finished tied for the Sun Belt lead with four victories at No. 1 doubles in conference matches and closed the regular season winning seven of their last 10 matchups.
Heading toward their second spring dual match season under the leadership of head coach Luc Godin, the Ragin' Cajuns (17-6, 4-2 Sun Belt in 2022) are coming off a 17-win campaign in the Spring 2022 dual match season which resulted in the team being ranked in the ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings (at No. 61) – one of only two teams in the state of Louisiana ranked and the highest in the Sun Belt Conference. That success landed Louisiana an appearance in the prestigious ITA Kickoff Weekend in January 2023.
