Louisiana and Texas State Battle to Remain atop Sun Belt West

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team continues its homestand at Earl K. Long Gym from Friday-Saturday, October 7-8 with a Sun Belt West Division showdown against Texas State.

The Ragin' Cajuns (9-4, 3-1 Sun Belt) and Bobcats (11-5, 3-1 Sun Belt) are scheduled to meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 7) and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 8), both matches live on ESPN+.

Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns home volleyball matches is free. Fans should park in the designated ParkMobile parking lots which can be found on the Volleyball Match Day Parking page.

Louisiana and Texas State enter the two-match series tied atop the SBC West Division standings, both seeking to gain an early advantage in the race for the title.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

Comforts of Home: The Ragin' Cajuns extended their home court winning streak to three matches after sweeping last week's Sun Belt series with Arkansas State. Louisiana is 4-1 at Earl K. Long Gym, averaging 13.4 kills and 2.3 blocks per set on its home court.
Must-See Volleyball: The Louisiana-Texas State series at Earl K. Long Gym features two of the Sun Belt West Division's current co-leaders. Both teams are seeking to keep their respective position in the standings, and keep pace with South Alabama.
Don't Leave Your Seat: Eight of the last 10 Ragin' Cajuns-Bobcats outings have lasted at least four sets.
Access Denied: Louisiana is averaging right at 3.0 blocks per set two weeks into Sun Belt Conference play. The Ragin' Cajuns threw up 44 blocks (2.9/set), combined, over the first two weekends of league play – the highest total among all teams.
Making Them Earn It: A streak that's now three-weeks running, Louisiana's defense has held the opposition to a sub-.200 hitting percentage over the last six matches.

NEW FACES
- Kristi Gray welcomed five newcomers to the program in the offseason. Transfers Mya Wilson (Georgia Southern), Paige Guidry (Nicholls), Celeste Darling (Houston) and Paola Garcia (UNLV), plus incoming freshman Lauryn Hill (Frisco, Texas/Liberty HS) as the newest members of the squad.
- Wilson hit .220-plus and accumulated at least 150 kills and 50 blocks each season at Georgia Southern (2019-21). Darling, who returns to Louisiana after competing as a freshman with the Ragin' Cajuns in 2019, helped lead Houston to the American Athletic Conference West Division title in the 2020-21 season and a 20-win season the following fall campaign.

PRESEASON PRAISE
Kelsey Bennett and Coco Gillett, both All-Sun Belt Conference selections in 2021, represented Louisiana on the 2022 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Volleyball team.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
It's another key Sun Belt West Division matchup as Louisiana travels to Mobile, Alabama to face current co-leader South Alabama in a two-match series from Thursday-Friday, October 13-14.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Jaguars are slated to meet at 6:00 p.m. both nights from Jaguar Gym on the USA campus. The matches are being broadcast on ESPN+.
