Louisiana earns 10th place finish in opening event of 2021-22
CHOUDRANT – Charlie Flynn and freshman Eli Ortego each recorded rounds of 2-under-par 70 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf Team produced a 10th-place finish in its season opener as the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate concluded on Tuesday at Squire Creek Golf Club.

Louisiana, which shot a team score of 4-over 292 in the final round, finished the 54-hole event at 873.

Flynn finished in a tie for 11th place for Louisiana in the 119-player field after finishing at 3-under 213 – one stroke off his career 54-hole best (212) set at the 2018 Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational. The junior, who notched his 10th career top-20 finish, birdied three of his final five holes in the round to finish at 2-under 34 on the back nine.

Ortego, in his Louisiana debut, birdied twice on the front nine and was 1-under 35 on the back nine – including an eagle on the par-4, 405-yard No. 14 – to finish in a tie for 33rd place at 2-over 218.

Peter Hinnant (74-68-81-223) finished in a tie for 59th overall for Louisiana with Matt Weber (79-72-75-226) and Hunter Hammett (76-76-77-229) rounding out the Ragin' Cajuns lineup with Jake Marler (76-75-75-226) competing as an individual.

LSU claimed the team title in the 21-team field at 841 with UTSA (848), Southern Miss (851), host Louisiana Tech (854) and Little Rock (862) rounding out the top five.

Louisiana Tech's Sam Murphy maintained his second-day lead and claimed individual medalist honors after shooting a 5-under 67 in the final round. Murphy finished at 13-under 203 for the event and was four strokes ahead of runner-up Hunter Atkins of Southern Miss.

Louisiana returns to action beginning on Monday when it travels to compete at UTSA's Lone Star Invitational at TPC San Antonio.
