Flynn's 71 Leads Louisiana At Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

Louisiana paired with High Point, ULM in second round
CHOUDRANT – Charlie Flynn posted a 1-under-par 71 in his 2021-22 debut and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns posted a team score of 6-over 294 to sit in a tie for 13th place after the first day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Sunday at Squire Creek Golf Club.
Freshman Eli Ortego recorded a 1-over 73 in his collegiate debut as Louisiana finished 10 strokes behind first-round leader Houston in the 20-team field.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin on Monday at 7:30 a.m. Louisiana, which will be paired with High Point and ULM in the second round, will tee off beginning at 9:10 a.m.
Starting from the No. 10 tee, Flynn rebounded from a slow start for Louisiana where he was 3-over after six holes before back-to-back birdies at No. 16 and 17 got him to 1-over at the turn. The junior moved to even-par on the day after a birdie at No. 2 before posting birdies at No. 5 and 7 and eventually finish at 2-under 34 on the front nine.
Ortego got off to a hot start for the Ragin' Cajuns, recording a birdie on three of his first holes before finishing at 1-under 35 at the turn. The freshman moved to 2-under with a birdie at No. 1, but consecutive bogeys starting at No. 2 and another bogey at No. 6 moved him to 1-over for the round.
Peter Hinnant posted a 2-over 74 in his 2021-22 debut for Louisiana with Hunter Hammett posting a 4-over 76 and Matt Weber a 7-over 79. Jake Marler, competing as an individual, posted a 4-over 76.
Houston led the field after recording a team score of 4-under 284 with Little Rock, LSU and Southern Miss one stroke back at 285. Kevin Lee of Lamar claimed the first-day lead after recording a 5-under 67 on the 7,105-yard course.
