Louisiana Looks For Title At SBC Outdoor Championships

Ragin' Cajuns among favorites for women's crown as three-day meet begins Thursday

MOBILE, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field looks for its 34th conference championship in school history when it begins competition on Thursday in the 2021 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Jaguar Track on the University of South Alabama campus.
 
The competition will begin Thursday at 9 a.m. with the decathlon, while the field events will start at noon with the women's hammer throw. Action continues on Friday beginning at 9 a.m. with the final day set to begin on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
 
Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com with all three days of the meet streamed on ESPN+ with Drew Fellios (pxp) and former Olympian Damu Cherry-Mitchell (color) providing the commentary.
 
Louisiana, which finished sixth in men's competition in 2019 and ninth on the women's side, looks to build off a solid indoor season where the Ragin' Cajuns finished third on the men's side and fourth in women's events.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns women's team will look to contend for its first title since 1997 with a lineup that includes sprinter Kiana Foster, hurdler Serenity Rogers and senior javelin thrower Claire Meyers. The trio enters the SBC meet ranked No. 1 overall in their respective events with Foster also ranked second overall in the 100 meters.
 
Foster leads a group of four Ragin' Cajuns ranked in the top eight in the women's 100-meters that includes Rogers and teammates Ta'La Spates and Johneisha George. Rogers posted the SBC's top time in the 100-meter hurdles and is one of five Louisiana hurdlers ranked among the top eight with Osayi Omorodion (fourth), Kennedy London (fifth), Reagann Leleux (seventh) and Juliette Smith (eighth) posting top times in the SBC.
 
Both the men's and women's 4x100-meter relay teams posted the top times during the outdoor season for Louisiana with Yves Cherubin (Men's 110-meter hurdles) and Nathan Fergusson (Men's 400-meter hurdles) posting the top marks among SBC athletes.
 
Meyers and freshman Maria Bienvenu enter the meet ranked 1-2 in the women's javelin for Louisiana with Brooklynne Wilson ranked second overall in the women's discus and Leleux third in the women's pole vault.
 
John Joseph (Men's triple jump) and Chandler Mixon (Men's decathlon) posted the SBC's top marks in their respective events for Louisiana with Mixon and Cole Courtois ranking fourth overall in the men's pole vault.
