Louisiana Sweeps Alcorn In Men's Tennis

LAFAYETTE – Oriol Fillat Gimenez picked up a pair of straight-set victories in singles play and teamed up with Xandy Hammitt for a pair of wins in doubles play as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team earned a doubleheader sweep of Alcorn State on Sunday at Cajun Courts.

Louisiana (9-8) opened the day with a 7-0 win over Alcorn before coming back with a 4-0 shutout in the finale.

Fillat Gimenez opened his day in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Santiago Rocca at No. 5 singles before defeating Kareem Bowe, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. The freshman joined Hammitt at No. 2 doubles, where they earned a 6-1 win over Bowe and Santiago in the opener before claiming a 6-2 win against the same Braves' tandem in the nightcap.

Louisiana took all three matches in doubles play in the opener and claimed all six matches in straight sets to complete the sweep.

In the nightcap, Hammitt and Fillat Gimenez sealed Louisiana's win at doubles before Grant Landreth sealed the Ragin' Cajuns eighth win in their last nine matches with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Dakota Fernandez at No. 5 singles.

Louisiana will return to action on March 27-28 when it plays a pair of Sun Belt Conference rivals in Mobile, Ala. The Ragin' Cajuns will open against Troy on March 27 before facing South Alabama on March 28.
