Louisiana to host eight teams in long-awaited 2021 outdoor opener

LAFAYETTE – Finally! After having its 2020 Outdoor season canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team officially opens its 2021 campaign on Friday when it hosts the Louisiana Classics at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

The two-day meet begins with field events at 3 p.m., on Friday with a pair of running events – the 200-meters and 5,000-meters – set to begin at 6:30. The final day of the meet will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m., with field events followed by the start of running events at 2 p.m.

Joining Louisiana in the nine-team field includes in-state programs LSU, McNeese, New Orleans, Nicholls, ULM and Dillard, plus Lamar and Barton County CC. Live results of the meet will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana last competed in an outdoors meet on May 25, 2019 – a span of 660 days – when it wrapped up competition at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla. The Ragin' Cajuns completed its 2020 indoor season at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships before having its outdoor season eventually canceled prior to the season opener at the McNeese Cowboy Relays.

Kiana Foster, Serenity Rogers, Reagann Leleux, Brock Appiah and Rylan Theyard all claimed SBC individual titles for Louisiana during the 2021 indoor season with Obdarius Ware returning after claiming the 2019 SBC Outdoor long jump crown.

The meet the first of seven for Louisiana during the outdoor season prior to the SBC Outdoor Championships May 13-15 in Mobile, Ala. The Ragin' Cajuns will compete in a pair of meets at LSU – the Battle on the Bayou (April 3) and Boots Garland Invitational (April 17), along with the historic Texas Relays (March 24-27), the Crimson Tide Invitational (April 8-10), the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational (April 24) and SLU's Conference Tuneup (May 1).
