Louisiana Set To Compete at SBC Indoor Championships

Ragin' Cajuns look to build on fourth-place finish in 2020
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team looks to contend for its first Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track and Field title since 1996 when it opens competition on Monday in the SBC Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.

The championship will begin at 9 a.m., on Monday with the combined events, beginning with the heptathlon. Field events begin at 12 p.m., with running events starting at 4:35 p.m.
The final day of the Championships will start on Tuesday at 9 a.m., followed by the pentathlon at 9:20 a.m. Field events begin at 12 p.m., with the final running events starting at 2, and the awards presentation at approximately 5.

Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com. Coverage on ESPN+ will begin at 4:30 p.m., on Monday and at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Louisiana returns to Birmingham for the second time this month after competing at South Alabama's Jaguar Invitational on Feb. 7. Reagann Leleux and Kiana Foster each established new school records in their respective events for the Ragin' Cajuns while Obdarius Ware set a meet record in the men's long jump.

The Ragin' Cajuns finished in fourth place on the men's side with 87.5 points while the women's team scored 29 of its 31 points on the final day to finish ninth. Arkansas State swept the team titles with UT Arlington finishing second in the men's field and Troy as the women's runner-up.

Louisiana capped off the 2020 Championships with a school-record in the women's final event as the 4x400 relay team of India Brown, Reina Ryan, Emoni Coleman and Ta'La Spates clocked a time of 3:48.06 to finish fourth overall to break the previous mark set in 1996.

Chandler Mixon, a second-team All-SBC selection, was named the SBC's Male Most Outstanding Field Athlete after scoring 17 points in the two-day meet. Mixon finished as the league's runner-up in both the heptathlon and pole vault while finishing eighth overall in the 60-meter hurdles.

The New Iberia, La., native opened the meet for Louisiana with a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 16-9 ¼. Mixon finished second overall in the men's heptathlon for the Ragin' Cajuns, scoring 5,307 points, before adding an eighth-place finish in the men's 60-meter hurdles (8.64 seconds).
