Ragin' Cajuns to open season with nine of first 11 matches at home
LAFAYETTE – The second year of the Lance Key era begins on Friday when the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team officially kicks off its 2020 season against Southland Conference member Abilene Christian at the Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available at CajunStats.com.
The match against ACU (12-5-2 in 2019) will be the first-ever meeting between the schools and is one of just two matches being played nationally to open the season (the other is Stephen F. Austin at Texas State).
Louisiana, which returns 15 letterwinners, posted a historic 9-8-3 record in 2019 which included the first-ever berth to semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championships. The Ragin' Cajuns will open the season with nine of its first 11 matches at home, including Sun Belt West Division foes Arkansas State, Little Rock, Texas State and ULM.
Team captains Julianne DeBlieux, Una Einarsdottir, Ashley Newland and Gwen Mummert return to lead the Ragin' Cajuns, who have 14 newcomers added to the roster that includes West Virginia transfer Lizzie Mayfield and junior college goalkeeper Jordan Higgins.
The Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility will operate at a significantly reduced capacity for the 2020 season (unless state policy changes during the season). This will allow for fans and University students to be accommodated this season.
Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments through its social media channels and RaginCajuns.com. Additionally, the department will communicate any changes to specific entry and attendance protocols for home matches.
