Hinnant Leads Louisiana In Opening Round at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

Second round play in 54-hole event begins on Monday at 8 a.m.
CHOUDRANT – Peter Hinnant fired a 1-over-par 73 while true freshman Jake Marler carded a 3-over 75 in his collegiate debut to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team after the first round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Sunday at Squire Creek Country Club.
Louisiana, playing in its 2020-21 season-opener, posted a team score of 15-over 303 to finish 10th overall at the opening 18 holes with second round play in the 54-hole event to start at 8 a.m. on Monday. Live results will be available at GolfStat.com.
Hinnant played a bogey-free front nine, posting a 2-under 34 before opening the back nine with a birdie at No. 10. The junior bogeyed par-5, 559-yard No. 11 before a double bogey at No. 14 moved him to even par. After a bogey on No. 16 to fall to 1-over for the day, Hinnant birdied at No. 17 before closing out with a bogey at No. 18.
Marler bogeyed three consecutive holes, starting on the par-4, 438-yard No. 4, before carding his first collegiate birdie at No. 7. The freshman remained at 2-over for the round until a double bogey at No. 15 before eventually rebounding with a birdie on the par-5, 561-yard No. 17.
Redshirt freshman Matt Weber recorded a 4-over par 76 in his Louisiana debut while Bjorn Gudjonsson posted a 7-over 79 and Cole Kendrick an 83.
Texas State claimed the first-round lead after posting a team score of 6-under 282 with Little Rock (283), No. 44-ranked UAB (284), South Alabama (286) and Western Kentucky (287) rounding out the top five.
UAB's Nick Robillard claimed the individual lead after the first round with a 5-under 67 with Yannick Schuetz of South Alabama one stroke back.
