SAN MARCOS, Texas – Nijal Pearson scored a game-high 17 points to lead three players in double figures and Texas State held off a late Louisiana rally to claim a 71-66 win over the Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday afternoon at Strahan Arena.

Alonzo Sule came off the bench to score 13 points while Shelby Adams added 11 as Texas State (14-9, 7-5 Sun Belt) led 30-23 at halftime and 62-46 with 3:47 remaining. Louisiana, which was led by P.J. Hardy's 16 points, closed the gap with a 20-9 run but could not get closer than five points as Texas State answered with clutch baskets and made four free throws in the final minute.

Louisiana took its only lead of the game in the opening minutes as Hardy and Mylik Wilson each scored buckets to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats scored six straight points to take their first lead of the contest, and after Hardy drained the first of his 3-pointers, they would take the lead for good on a layup by Adams with 15:37 remaining in the first half.

Texas State took a 25-15 lead on a bucket by Pearson, who finished 6-for-17 from the floor and 3-for-7 from behind the 3-point line. Louisiana would answer with an 11-5 run that was capped by a 3-pointer by Hardy, which cut the lead to 30-26 with 18:41 remaining.

But Texas State would score the next eight points to push the lead back to double-digits as Mason Harrell connected on a short jumper, Pearson followed with a 3-pointer and the Bobcats would sink three free throws for a 38-26 lead at the 16:08 mark.

Sule grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to lead Texas State, which held a 41-37 advantage on the glass with 14 caroms on the offensive end. The Bobcats finished 21-for-25 from the free throw line while the bench chipped in with 26 points.

Hardy, who notched his fourth straight game with three or more 3-pointers, finished 6-for-11 from the floor and 4-for-8 from long distance for Louisiana. The Ragin' Cajuns were held to 23-for-58 (39.7 percent) from the floor and 7-for-28 from long range.
