Cherubin's School-Record Paces Ragin' Cajuns In Houston

Four first-place finishes and 22 top-five finishes for Louisiana in 12-team meet
HOUSTON – Newcomer Yves Cherubin set an indoor school-record in the men's 60-meter hurdles, while the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team recorded four first-place finishes and 22 top-five finishes during the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Dominique Williams, Obdarius Ware, Key Alfred and Frankie Griffin each claimed first-place honors in their respective events in Louisiana's second of three straight meets in the state of Texas.
Cherubin, who qualified for the finals after clocking a time of 8.08 seconds in the preliminaries, finished second overall for Louisiana after posting a time of 8.03 and breaking the previous record (8.05) set by Tyler Hughes in 2015. Cherubin's performance led Louisiana to a 2-3-4 finish in the event with Chandler Mixon finishing third (8.12) and Tahj Whitfield fourth (8.14).
Williams, competing in the men's weight throw for the Ragin' Cajuns, posted the top-mark in the Sun Belt Conference with a throw of 67 feet, 5 inches. Ware led a 1-2 finish in the men's long jump for Louisiana after clearing 23-2 ¼ with teammate John Joseph finishing second at 22-11 ¼.
Alfred claimed the men's 800-meter run for Louisiana as he crossed the finish line in 1:58.73 with Tyrell Hargrove placing fifth overall (2:00.43). Nathan Fergusson (21.91) and Terroll Jolla (22.02) were third and fifth, respectively, in the men's 200-meters for Louisiana with Jolla finishing fifth in the men's 60-meter dash (6.88).
Damon Guidry and Rylan Theyard each cleared 6-4 ¾ in the men's high jump for Louisiana with Shaquille Singuineau finishing fourth in the men's shot put (51-0 ¾).
Griffin cleared 5-8 ¾ in the women's high jump to finish in first place for Louisiana with freshman Taylor Davis placing third overall (5-5). Alexis James claimed fourth-place honors in the women's weight throw (50-6) for the Ragin' Cajuns with freshman Cammi Martinez clearing 11-11 ¾ in the pole vault to finish fifth.
Freshman Ta'La Spates set a personal-best in the women's 200-meters for Louisiana, crossing the line in 24.91. Freshman Kennedy London claimed second-place honors in the women's 60-meter hurdles (8.73) for the Ragin' Cajuns with India Brown setting a personal-best in the women's 400-meters (57.79).
Louisiana will compete in a pair of events on Friday (Jan. 31), traveling to Houston to compete at the Houston G5 & Mid-Major Invitational along with the McNeese Indoor in Lake Charles.
