Ragin' Cajuns look to build off successful opening weekend
LAFAYETTE – After opening its 2020 Indoor Track and Field schedule last week, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns return to competition for the second time this season when it travels to College Station, Texas to compete in the Ted Nelson Invitational on Friday at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
Action begins at 12 p.m. with four field events along with the preliminaries of the women's 60-meter dash. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.
Louisiana, competing for the first of three straight weekends in the state of Texas, will be joined in the 17-team meet by Barton County CC, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Lamar, ULM, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, North Texas, Northwestern State, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern, Texas-Rio Grande Valley, UT Tyler and Western Texas College.
The Ragin' Cajuns opened their season last Friday at the LSU Purple Tiger with eight members recording top-5 marks among Sun Belt Conference schools.
Rylan Theyard posted the league's top mark for Louisiana in the men's triple jump (49-7 ¼) with Dominique Williams (men's weight throw, 64-5), the freshman tandem of Trejun Jones (60-meter dash, 6.85) and Nick Russell (men's pole vault, 15-5), along with Frankie Griffin (women's high jump, 5-6 ½) each recording the second-best mark in the league.
Newcomer Tahj Whitfield, who was named the Sun Belt Male Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, enters the meet ranked third overall for Louisiana in the men's 60-meter hurdles (8.16) with John Joseph ranked fourth in the men's triple jump (47-5 ¼) and Alexis James fifth in the women's weight throw (52-3 ¾).
