LAFAYETTE –The first day of the John Breaux Cajun Tennis Classic finished with Karlo Kajin earning his first victory as a Ragin' Cajun, while Ivailo Keremedchiev fell in the quarterfinals of the main draw. Also, two Louisiana duos squared off in the first round of the doubles draw in exciting fashion.
After falling in his debut, Kajin rebounded and snagged his first win as a Ragin' Cajun beating Tomas Descarrega (LSU) 6-2, 6-4. Keremedchiev wasn't so lucky falling in the second round of the main draw to Makey Rakotomalala (ASU) 3-6, 2-6. Even though Keremedchiev lost, he has already picked up six wins this fall.
The pair of Kacper Dworak and Pearse Dolan were originally slated to face two competitors from Ole Miss. However, an ankle roll in the opening singles match for Lucas Englehardt forced Ole Miss to drop out of doubles competition. The two that took their place were Louisiana's Pierce Gilheany and Jamie Fraser. After an exciting doubles match to end the first day of tournament play, Dworak and Dolan come out victorious edging Gilheany and Fraser 9-8 (6).
Consolation singles matches will open tomorrow's play at 9 a.m. Kajin will try to grab another win against Christopher Frantzen (Baylor) and Keremedchiev will battle Constantin Frantzen (Baylor) in the quarter final consolation pool. Dworak and Dolan will begin their match against the Frantzen brothers starting after 2 p.m.
