@RaginCajunsBSB’s Comeback Falls Short Against Texas State, 13-9

4/27/2019 12:12:00 AM | Baseball

Louisiana rallied to within 10-9 after falling behind 10-0 in the fifth inning

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana mounted a valiant comeback effort after falling behind 10-0 in the fifth inning, but the deficit ultimately proved too much for the Ragin' Cajuns to overcome as they fell to Texas State, 13-9, in the series opener on Friday night.

There were plenty of opportunities for Louisiana (20-25, 8-11) to steal the game late, but it was unable to do so after leaving the bases loaded twice and stranding 13 runners on base.

For the second-straight game, the Ragin' Cajuns were able to produce a double-digit hit total after knocking 12 against the Bobcats. Four different players finished the game with two hits, with Orynn Veillon being the only one of those players to record an extra-base hit after doubling in the second.

Junior Todd Lott posted three RBI in the defeat, with Brennan Breaux and O'Neal Lochridge each adding two of their own. All three finished the game with one hit apiece.

The pitching staff fanned a combined 10 batters on Friday night, but nine walks and a hit batter was costly as six of the runners went on to touch home plate. Junior Brandon Young (2-5) took the loss, giving up five total runs, four of which were earned, on six hits in 4.1 innings of action.

After taking an early lead on an unearned run in the second inning, Texas State (29-13, 13-6) put up a staggering nine runs on seven hits in the fifth to open a commanding 10-0 advantage.

In the fifth and sixth frames, Louisiana pulled five of those runs back to cut the lead in half before a four-spot in the seventh inning on three hits saw the Ragin' Cajuns pull within one run, 10-9. With the bases loaded and two outs in that same frame, Louisiana had a golden opportunity to take the lead but a pop up ended the threat.

The Bobcats added three more runs in the ninth, extending its lead to 13-9. Down to their final three outs, the Ragin' Cajuns put the first two runners on with no outs, but they were unable to score as Texas State escaped with the victory.
