Louisiana Stumbles at UTA, 7-3

ARLINGTON, Texas – For the second consecutive night, five runs in the final two innings proved to be the undoing for Louisiana Baseball as it fell to UTA, 7-3, at Clay Gould Ballpark on Friday.

It was déjà vu for the Ragin' Cajuns (20-22, 8-9), which dropped Thursday night's game after allowing five runs to score in the final two frames, sending the Mavericks to a 9-8, walk-off win.

Junior Tremaine Spears went 3-for-3 at the plate in the defeat to lead the team offensively, with all three of his hits one baggers. Senior Orynn Veillon played a hand in all of Louisiana's runs, producing three RBI in a 1-for-3 night.

Brandon Young (2-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in 6.0 innings of work.

After giving up a first-inning run, Louisiana took its first lead of the evening in the second when Veillon plated two with a smoked single up the middle. UTA (27-13, 13-4) answered back in the bottom of the same frame with another run, tying the game at 2-2.

Two innings later, Louisiana went ahead 3-2 when a chopper off Veillon's bat was bobbled by the second baseman, allowing Handsome Monica to score from home.

That lead lasted until the bottom of the seventh, when the Mavericks saw two runs come across the plate via two wild pitches to claim a 4-3 lead. UTA added three insurance runs in the eighth to finish off a 7-3 victory.
