Louisiana Wraps Up Eight-Game Homestand Against South Alabama

The two teams will be meeting for the 113th time when the series starts on Friday
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Baseball looks to cap off its eight-game homestand on a high note when it welcomes South Alabama to Russo Park for a pivotal three-game Sun Belt series. Game times are set for 6:30 p.m., on Friday, 4 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., on Sunday.

The Ragin' Cajuns (17-19, 6-6) and the Jaguars will be meeting for the 113th time when they take the diamond this weekend, making the Jags the third-most common Sun Belt opponent for Louisiana behind ULM (143) and Arkansas State (127).

It has been a tough week so far for Louisiana after it dropped its two midweek contests against Louisiana Tech (11-3) and McNeese State (6-3). Senior Hunter Kasuls led the way over the two-game span with a team-high four hits and an RBI, while fellow senior Handsome Monica tallied his team-leading ninth home run in Tuesday's game.

On the year, it is Todd Lott who continues to carry the offense with a .330 (35-for-106) batting average. Despite hitting seven points lower (.323), sophomore Hayden Cantrelle leads the team in hits (43), doubles (8), total bases (77) and stolen bases (22).

Louisiana's starting rotation for the weekend has already been set, with left-hander Austin Perrin (4.29 ERA, 3-3) getting the start on Friday, right-hander Brandon Young (3.28 ERA, 1-3) starting Saturday and right-hander Jack Burk (3.52 ERA, 0-0) getting the start on Sunday.

South Alabama (14-18, 4-8) is coming off a stretch in which it lost four of its last five contests, albeit to the likes of No. 9 LSU, No. 25 Coastal Carolina and No. 6 Mississippi State.

Ethan Wilson leads the way for the Jaguars' offense with a team-high 39 hits in 123 at-bats, 18 of which were for extra bases including eight home runs. The Jags will throw JoJo Booker (3.67 ERA, 3-3) on Friday night and Caleb Yarborough (4.13 ERA, 2-4) on Saturday, with Sunday's starter listed as TBA.
