Louisiana Faces Sam Houston State for First Road Contest of Campaign

Ragin’ Cajuns are 5-2 in road openers under head coach Garry Brodhead
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to Huntsville, Texas, for a non-conference date with Sam Houston State at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Under the tutelage of eighth-year head coach Garry Brodhead, the Ragin' Cajuns (1-0) are 5-2 in road openers.

The 2019-20 season got off to a good start on Thursday following Louisiana's 67-51 victory over Loyola (New Orleans). The team was lights out during the game, shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from long range.

Eleven of the 13 players that saw action against the Wolf Pack recorded points. Skyler Goodwin led the charge with 12 of those points, with Andrea Cournoyer chipping in 11 points of her own.

Sam Houston State (1-0) got its season off to an electric start as well, earning a season-opening 91-49 victory over Howard-Payne on Wednesday, Nov. 6. It was all about defense for the Bearkats in the game, forcing 40 turnovers and turning them into 55 points.

Senior Jenniffer Oramas led the team with an impressive 19 points in the victory, while fellow senior Kiera McKinney added 14 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks to notch her first career double-double.

Sunday's contest will be the 12th meeting between the two programs, with Louisiana leading the all-time series, 6-5. Sam Houston State won the most recent matchup, earning a 68-62 victory on Dec. 8, 2018.
