@RaginCajunsWBB Wraps Up The Arkansas Swing With Visit To Little Rock

JONESBORO, Ark. – Louisiana Women's Basketball (2-10, 0-1 SBC) continues its Sun Belt Conference opening weekend with a visit to Little Rock, Ark. to take on the defending Sun Belt Conference Champion Little Rock Trojans (5-7, 1-0 SBC) on Jan. 5 with tip at the Jack Stephens Center scheduled for 3 p.m.

PREVIEWING THE GAME: Louisiana enters its game against Little Rock having dropped the previous two matchups between the two programs, with Louisiana's last win against Little Rock coming in the semifinals of the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championships at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, La.  The last time that Louisiana won in Little Rock was a 65-58 win on Jan. 7, 2016.

Louisiana did take Little Rock to overtime in the two teams last meeting, falling 72-63 at the CAJUNDOME to wrap up the 2017-18 regular season.  All-time Little Rock leads the series with a record of 23-10.

REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS GAME: - Louisiana dropped its first conference game of the season, falling just short at Arkansas State, on Jan. 3, 87-75.  Despite trailing by at least 10 points with just under four minutes left in the game, Louisiana went on a run down the stretch and after a 6-0 run the Ragin' Cajuns sat just four points away from the Red Wolves with two minutes to go. 
But an 8-0 run from Arkansas State over the final two minutes ended Louisiana's attempt at a comeback to come away with the conference opening win.

Freshmen guards Brandi Williams and Andrea Cournoyer each finished with career highs in scoring, with Williams finishing with a team-high 25 points and Cournoyer sitting just behind her with 21 points.  Williams shot 8-for-12 from the field and was 9-for-11 at the free throw line to help her rack up the points.  As for Cournoyer she was on fire from beyond the arc, shooting 4-for-9 from three-point land (7-for-17 from the field) to help her finish with a career-high.

BEGINNING CONFERENCE IN FAMILIAR PLACES: Louisiana's trip to Jonesboro, Ark., to begin its Sun Belt Conference portion of the schedule was the is the fifth straight season that Louisiana's road conference schedule began at either Arkansas State or Little Rock. And it is the third straight season that Louisiana has opened its conference season on the road.

AC AND BRANDI LIGHT IT UP: Williams and Cournoyer each scored career highs at Arkansas State with Williams scoring 25 and Cournoyer adding 21 of her own.  It was the first time that Louisiana had two freshmen score at least 20 points in a game since Kia Wilridge and Keke Veal each scored 20 points against Florida Atlantic on Feb. 16, 2013.

WILLIAMS HAS IMPRESSED: Williams has been impressive through Louisiana's first 12 games, scoring 11.5 points per game, the second most on the team, while shooting .392 percent from the field.  The 11.5 ppg., rank Williams second on the team in scoring and when looking at the Sun Belt Conference, Williams is the leading scorer among freshmen.

AVERAGING A DOUCET SPECIAL: Sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet has been extremely consistent over the first two months of the season.  She currently averages a double-double scoring 14.3 points per game and grabbing 10.7 rebounds per game.  Doucet's numbers, eighth in scoring and second in rebounding, meaning that she is the only player in the Sun Belt that averaged a double-double over the non-conference portion of the season.

LOUISIANA FRESHMEN HAVE BEEN KEY: Louisiana's four freshmen have played key parts on the court over the Ragin' Cajuns' 12 games played so far.  Louisiana's freshmen have averaged 29.5 points per game total, which is just under half of the 62.5 points per game that Louisiana is averaging as a team and the four freshmen are shooting .369 percent playing a key part the team shooting percentage of .382.

WHAT THE RED WOLVES BRING: Little Rock enters Saturday's game against Louisiana having won its conference opener against ULM on Jan. 3, winning 63-44.  The win against ULM was Little Rock's third win in its last four games, with the ULM game being the first game Little Rock played at home since falling to Kansas Staet (53-47) on Dec. 8.

As a team, Little Rock is shooting .394 from the field, ranking them fifth in the conference and the 60.0 points per game that the Trojans are giving up ranks them third in the Sun Belt.  Nationally, Little Rock ranks 84th in fewest turnovers, turning the ball over only 182 times over the first 12 games.  The Trojans' turnover margin of 3.4 sits 66th in the NCAA and they rank 97th in the country in scoring defense.

Little Rock boasts two players scoring in double-figures, with Kyra Collier leading the way averaging 13.3 points per game.  Sitting right behind her is Ronjanae DeGray who is scoring 12.3 points per game.

DeGray and Terion Moore lead the Trojans in rebounding, averaging 4.8 rebounds per game and DeGray has grabbed the most total rebounds on the team having snagged 57 through 12 games.  Sydney Chastain and Collier have both moved the ball effectivly, leading Little Rock in total assists (33) and assists per game (2.8).
