LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Women's Basketball (2-9), for the third straight season, opens up its Sun Belt Conference schedule with the Arkansas swing, starting with Arkansas State (5-6) in Jonesboro, Ark., on Jan. 3 with tip scheduled for 7 p.m.

PREVIEWING THE GAME: For the third-straight season, Louisiana opens up its conference schedule against either Arkansas State or Little Rock, and it is the fifth straight year that Louisiana has begun its road slate of conference games in Arkansas. This will be the 69th meeting all-time between Louisiana and Arkansas State, with the Red Wolves being the second-most common opponent in Louisiana's history.
All-time Arkansas State owns a 50-18 advantage over Louisiana, but the Ragin' Cajuns have won the previous four games. With two of those wins coming in Jonesboro, with the Ragin' Cajuns taking those two games by a combined score of 157-147. Â
REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS GAME: Louisiana dropped its final non-conference game of the season, 104-36, when it made the trip north to Starkville, Mississippi to face No. 8 Mississippi State on Dec. 30, 2018. It was the second-straight season that Louisiana and Mississippi State faced off, with last year's game being played in Jackson, Miss.Â
Mississippi State opened the game scoring the first 22 points of the game, and the Bulldogs did not look back from there.Â
Sophomore guard Skyler Goodwin led Louisiana in scoring, finishing with nine points (3-for-13) and she had the second-most rebounds in the game for Louisiana finishing with six rebounds. While sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet led Louisiana on the glass, finishing with seven rebounds and adding three points.
AVERAGING A DOUCET SPECIAL: Doucet has been extremely consistent over the first two months of the season. She is currently averaging a double-double scoring 14.8 points per game and grabbing 11.2 rebounds per game. Doucet's numbers, sixth in scoring and first in rebounding, mean that she is the only player in the Sun Belt that has averaged a double-double over the non-

WILLIAMS HAS IMPRESSED: Freshman guard Brandi Williams has been impressive through Louisiana's first 11 games, scoring 10.3 points per game, the second most on the team, while shooting .356 percent from the field. The 10.3 ppg., rank Williams second on the team in scoring and when looking at the Sun Belt Conference, Williams is the third leading scorer among freshmen.
LOUISIANA FRESHMEN HAVE BEEN KEY: Louisiana's four freshmen have played key parts on the court over the Ragin' Cajuns' 11 games played so far. Louisiana's freshmen have averaged 27.6 points per game total, which is just under half of the 61.4 points per game that Louisiana is averaging as a team and the four freshmen are shooting .358 percent playing a key part the team shooting percentage of .379.
WHAT THE RED WOLVES BRING: Arkansas State enters the game with Louisiana on a two-game losing streak, having dropped its last two games by a combined score of 144-105, losing 74-50 at Belmont (Dec. 21) and at Missouri 70-50 (Dec. 30).
As a team, Arkansas State ranks sixth in the conference in scoring offense, and the Red Wolves sit 10th in scoring defense. Coming in shooting .391 as a team, the Red Wolves rank fourth in the conference while defensively they sit ninth in the Sun Belt.
The Red Wolves have two players scoring in double-figures, with Peyton Martin leading the way scoring an average of 14.5 points per game. Right behind Martin is Akasha Westbrook who is scoring an average of 10.2 points per game.
Martin also leads the Red Wolves in rebounding as well, coming in averaging 6.5 rebounds per game. Westbrook, much like Martin, has been rebounding well for Arkansas State and she sits second on the team with 6.5 rebounds per game.
Martin, who leads the team in shooting percentage from the field (.488), ranks seventh in the conference in scoring and eighth in the Sun Belt in field goal percentage. Westbrook, who leads the team in steals, sits fifth in the conference averaging 2.0 steals per game. Kayla Williams has been Arkansas State's best perimeter shooter, leading the team in three-point field goals made (nine) and three-point field goal percentage (.474).
