Smith, Beyer, Mixon to compete in two-day multi events; team meet on Saturday
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team begins a busy weekend on Thursday when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to compete in the Samford Multi and Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Louisiana, which opened its season last week at Texas A&M, will send Juliette Smith (women's pentathlon), Franz Beyer (men's heptathlon) and Chandler Mixon (men's heptathlon) to compete in the two-day multi which begins on Thursday before wrapping up competition on Saturday at the Samford Invite.

The Ragin' Cajuns will compete in the 27-athlete field that will include athletes from Arkansas State, Kennesaw State, McNeese State, Montevallo, Samford and UAB. Live results for the three-day event will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana will get its first chance to compete in multi events this season with Smith finishing fifth in the pentathlon at last year's Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships. Beyer, who missed the entire 2018 season, claimed the 2017 SBC Indoor Heptathlon title while Mixon finished seventh in the heptathlon at the 2018 SBC Indoor Meet.

After the two-day multi concludes on Friday, Louisiana will send a full squad into competition on Saturday at the Samford Invitational. Action will begin at 8 a.m., with field events with running events starting at 9:30.

Freshman Reagann Leleux broke the school-record in the women's pole vault (12-8 ¼) in her first collegiate meet with Shaquille Singuineau (men's shot put) and Damon Guidry (men's high jump) each turning in second-place performances.

Kyle Baudoin posted the top mark in the men's pole vault (16-2) among Sun Belt Conference athletes while freshman John Joseph posted the league's second-best mark in the men's triple jump (48-5 ½) during the open week.

In his collegiate debut, freshman Terrell Jolla posted the fourth-fastest time in the men's 60-meter dash (6.90) among SBC athletes with Singuineau posting the fourth-best mark in the men's shot put (52-6).

Transfers Kalei Matthews (Arizona State) posted the league's fourth-best time in the women's 200-meter dash (24.84) in her Ragin' Cajuns debut while twin sister Shalei Matthews (Kansas) recorded the third-best mark in the women's triple jump (37-8 ¾).
