Limoh, Hesterman ready to lead Cajuns

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's cross country teams officially open their respective 2018 season on Friday when it travels to Lake Charles to compete in the McNeese Opener at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex.

The women's 3,000-meter race will begin at 6 p.m., with the men's 4K race following at 6:30 p.m. Joining Louisiana in the six-team field includes host McNeese, LSU, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana and Southern.

On the men's side, returning All-Sun Belt Conference performers Stanley Limoh and Jonathan Kimutai will look to pace Louisiana, which enters the meet ranked No. 14 in the USTFCCCA South Central Region. Returning letterwinners Regan Lemaire, George Femmer, Andre Bellard and Conner Meche will contend for spots in Louisiana's top five along with newcomers Key Alfred and Hannes Burger.

Hailey Hesterman will lead a youthful Ragin' Cajuns women's team that features five underclassmen. Junior Alexa Breaux returns after posting three top-20 finishes in 2017, with sophomores Teresa Bruning and Ally McCulley, plus freshman Alivia Johnson, Kate Ferguson and Kaya Seaman rounding out the roster.

The season-opening meet is one of at least six for the Ragin' Cajuns with meets scheduled at South Alabama's Azalea City Classic (Sept. 7), the McNeese Cowboy Stampede (Sept. 29) and Texas A&M's Arturo Barrios Invitational (Oct. 13).

Louisiana will also compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Oct. 27 in Mobile, Ala., and the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Nov. 9 in College Station, Texas.
