JONESBORO, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to continue its season-long six-game road trip on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the first of three games against Arkansas State at Tomlinson Stadium.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Red Wolves continue the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.

The Series

The Ragin' Cajuns hold an 82-39 all-time series edge over Arkansas State having won the last seven meetings including a sweep of the Red Wolves last season at home.

Louisiana has won 14 of the last 17 contests against Arkansas State. The Cajuns are 49-26 with head coach Tony Robichaux at the helm including an 18-9 mark in Jonesboro.

Scouting Louisiana

The Cajuns (11-13, 2-4 SBC) are coming off of their fourth win over a ranked opponent this season defeating No. 19 LSU 3-1 on Tuesday to complete the series sweep of the Tigers. Louisiana is still looking for its first series win of the year and comes into the weekend ranked first in the Sun Belt in both pitching (3.50 ERA) and fielding (.981).

Freshman Hayden Cantrelle is on a team-best eight-game hit streak posting a .423 average (11-for-26) with five RBI and a .515 on base percentage during the streak. Senior Kennon Fontenot extended his team lead in RBI on the season to 16 after driving in two runs against LSU.

Senior left-hander Colten Schmidt anchors the Louisiana pitching staff with a 1-0 record and a 1.58 ERA. Schmidt ranks third in the nation in both walks allowed per nine innings and strikeout to walk ratio.

Scouting Arkansas State

Arkansas State (9-12, 1-5 SBC) has lost seven of its last eight contests coming into the series with the lone victory coming at ULM in a 31-7 game.

The Red Wolves rank last in the Sun Belt in fielding having committed 42 errors in 21 games. ASU also ranks 11th in pitching with a 5.66 team ERA.

Offensively, Arkansas State is hitting .250 with 36 doubles, six triples and 15 home runs while averaging 6.5 runs per game. Kyle MacDonald leads the club ranking sixth in the SBC with a .354 average including seven doubles, one triple, three home runs and 14 RBI.

Senior Dylan Moore was named one of 30 baseball student-athletes who excel both on and off the field as candidate for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate baseball. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season.
