The Cajuns will take on Xavier (La.) in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 3 and Louisiana Tech in a single dual match on Sunday, Feb. 4.
LAFAYETTE – Wrapping up their seven-match home swing to open up the season, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team welcomes the Xavier (La.) Gold Nuggets for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 3 (10 a.m./1:30 p.m.) and on the next day, Sunday, Feb. 4, the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters come to Cajuns Courts for a single dual match, with that match starting at 11 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Cajuns hosted a midweek doubleheader against Southern and on Northwestern State on Wednesday, Jan. 31. In that doubleheader the Cajuns won both matches to improve to 4-0 on the season. Against Southern the Cajuns won in commanding fashion, 4-0. Freshmen Dana Radovanovic and Floriane Picaut won their doubles match to give the Cajuns the point there, and in singles Radovanovic and senior Kelly Drew each won their matches in straight sets to give the Cajuns the win.
          Â
Northwestern State was a battle for the Cajuns later in the day, but in the end the Cajuns came away with the hard earned 4-3 win. Radovanovic and Picaut again secured the doubles point for the Cajuns with a 6-2 win. But in singles the Lady Demons put up a strong fight. They won at No. 4 and No. 5, while Picaut won her match at No. 2 to set up a 3-2 lead for the Cajuns with No. 1 and No. 3 yet to be decided.
          Â
At No. 1 Drew fell in three-sets, to tie the score up, but the score remained tied only for a short amount of time as less than a minute later Radovanovic secured the Cajuns victory when she locked up her match at No. 3 and with that Louisiana finished the day 2-0.
IMPRESSIVE FRESHMEN: Both Picaut and Radovanovic have been impressive through the first week of the 2018 season. They both sit at 5-0 overall, and in doubles the two have yet to be beaten, going 3-0 to kick off their collegiate careers.
WHAT THE GOLD NUGGETS BRING: Xavier (La.) enters the match with a 0-2 record, having lost their first two matches of the season. A 7-0 loss at South Alabama, on Jan. 20, and a 5-4 loss to Loyola (N.O.) at home on Jan. 28. This is the first time the two schools have met on the court since 2015, with that matchup being on the tail end of a three year stretch where the Cajuns met up with the Gold Nuggets each season. Louisiana has won the previous three meetings against Xavier (La.), winning all three of the matches they had during the three year stretch that ended in 2015.
WHAT THE LADY TECHSTERS BRING: Louisiana Tech beings the weekend with a match at McNeese State on Saturday, Feb. 3 before they travel to Lafayette to face the Cajuns. So far in the season the Lady Techsters carry a 0-1 record having lost at North Texas, 5-2, on Jan. 27.
          Â
Although the Lady Techsters will have only played two dual matches before taking on the Cajuns, individually they've been busy. They opened up the 2018 spring season by visiting Tulsa, Okla., to take part in the three-day Hurricane Invite. At the event, they faced three schools (Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Wyoming) and during the three days they came away with seven total wins, six of which came against Oral Roberts.
          Â
Louisiana last played the Lady Techsters in 2014, a 5-2 loss for the Cajuns. The Cajuns last beat the Lady Techsters in 2012, a 5-2 win in a match that again took place on Cajun Courts. All-time the Cajuns' record against Louisiana Tech is 10-22.
