@RaginCajunsWBB Plays Host To Louisiana State For First Time Since 1998

LAFAYETTE – For the first time since 1998, Louisiana Women's Basketball (2-7) will welcome in-state foe, Louisiana State (6-3), to Lafayette, La., and for the first time since 1990 the game will be played in the CAJUNDOME with the big matchup scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN/FOLLOW: On television, the game will be covered on COX Sports TV with Dan McDonald (pxp) and Lawana Stokes (analyst) handling the call. Steve Peloquin will handle the radio call, with the game being broadcast on 1420AM.

BIDDY DAY: Fans who wear their Biddy League or Recreation League game jerseys can get into the game for free. To redeem the offer head to the CAJUNDOME box office before the start of the game and make sure to that the kids have on their jersey.
PREVIEWING THE GAME: This will be the second-straight season that Louisiana and Louisiana State will face off on the hardwood, and it's the first time since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons that Louisiana and Louisiana State have played each other in back-to-back seasons. Last year Louisiana fell, 60-45, in Baton Rouge, La., with this game being the first time that Louisiana and Louisiana State will meet in Lafayette since 1998.
A win by Louisiana would snap a 26-game losing streak to Louisiana State, with the Ragin' Cajuns last win against Louisiana State coming on Mar. 2, 1974, when Louisiana won 48-40. All-Time Louisiana State leads the series 26-5 and this will be the 32nd meeting between the two programs.
REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS GAME: Louisiana got its first win in five games, with a 62-52 exhibition game win over Xavier (La.) on Dec. 15 at the CAJUNDOME. In the game sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet got yet another double-double, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Louisiana in both scoring and rebounding.
Sophomore guard Skyler Goodwin scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds while freshman guard Diamond Morrison scored 10 points to give Louisiana three who finished in double-figures. Louisiana shot 41 percent from the field during the game, and a strong fourth quarter allowed where the Ragin' Cajuns shot 46 percent pushed Louisiana over the top and locked up Louisiana's victory.
During the fourth quarter, Louisiana outscored Xavier (La.) 16-6 to pull away from the Gold Nuggets down the stretch. In the paint, Louisiana outscored Xavier (La.), 30-24, and the Ragin' Cajuns were taking advantage of fast break baskets scoring six points on fast breaks.
DOUCET OWNS THE GLASS: Over Louisiana's first nine games, Doucet has been a force on the glass and the production has shown on the stat sheet. So far, she has averaged 12.3 rebounds per game and grabbed 111 total boards. That puts her in nationally in the Top-10 in rebounding, with her 12.3 rpgs., putting her ninth in the country and her 111 rebounds are the 14th most grabbed by anyone so far this season.
FRESHMEN HAVE BEEN BUSY: So far this season, Louisiana's four freshmen have played key parts on the court. Freshman guard Brandi Williams is second on the team in points per game, averaging 11.7 points per game, and freshman forward Jazmyn Womack is fifth on the team in rebounds per game averaging 3.1 rebounds per game.
When considering the team totals, Louisiana's freshmen have averaged 39.8 points per game total, which is roughly half of the 65.0 points per game that the Ragin' Cajuns are averaging as a team and the four freshmen are shooting .374 percent playing a key part in Louisiana's team total of .398 shooting percentage.
HAVE A STRETCH WILLIAMS: Williams has scored at least 10 points in four out of the last five games, going back Nov. 15 at Auburn. She has finished with at least 10 points in the last three-straight games, scoring 14 points at Ole Miss (Dec. 12) to continue the streak.
She is second on the team in scoring averaging 11.7 points per game and during the stretch she scored 15 points at Auburn; 13 points at UT Rio Grande Valley (Dec. 1); 14 points vs. Sam Houston State and 14 at Ole Miss.
CALLING IN REINFORCEMENTS: During Louisiana's game against Sam Houston State (Dec. 8) both Daniels and Bess made their debuts in a Louisiana uniform. Coming off the bench Daniels scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in just 16 minutes of action, while Bess logged 11 minutes off the bench.
WHAT THE LADY TIGERS BRING: Louisiana State, enters the game against Louisiana having won two out of its last three games, including taking down Nicholls State, 76-44, on Dec. 18. Louisiana will be the second Sun Belt Conference team that Louisiana State has faced this season, with the Lady Tigers having beaten Little Rock, 60-45, on Nov. 25.
Nationally Louisiana State ranks 13th in the NCAA in scoring defense and the Lady Tigers are second in the Southeastern Conference, behind only No. 5 Mississippi State who leads the nation in scoring defense.
The Lady Tigers have two players who are scoring in double-figures to lead Louisiana State in the scoring column with Ayana Mitchell leading the way with 13.9 points per game. Khayla Pointer is right behind Mitchell averaging 13.3 points per game. Mitchell is also leading the team in rebounds, averaging 13.3 rebounds per game giving Mitchell a double-double average through Louisiana State's first nine games of the season.
Mitchell's 13.3 rebounds per game ranks her 12th in the country. She is also the leading shooter, shooting .588 percent (47-for-80) from the field on the season and she is second on the team in field goal attempts. Pointer leads the team in total assists with 42 and she is averaging 4.7 assists per game.
