LAFAYETTE – This weekend, Louisiana Women's Basketball (2-3, 0-0 SBC) heads to the Rio Grande Valley, to take part in the Texas Rio Grande Valley: Battle on the Border hosted by UT Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas, where the Ragin' Cajuns will take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Nov. 30 and they will wrap up the weekend playing hosting UTRGV on Saturday, Dec. 1.

HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN/FOLLOW: Both games will be broadcast on ESPN1420, with Steve Peloquin handling the call.  While on TV, the game against AMCC will streamed on Facebook Live by VestedSports, and Louisiana's game against UT Rio Grande Valley will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.

REVIEWING THE PREVIOUS GAME: Louisiana went to Auburn, Ala., to face off with the Auburn Tigers on Nov. 25 and for the second straight season gave Auburn a run for its money.  With only 1:25 left in the game Louisiana had cut the Tiger lead to five points, with the score sitting at 64-59.  But a strong finish from Auburn allowed them to hold onto the lead, but not without Louisiana playing tough from start to finish.

For the fifth straight game, sophomore center Ty'Reona Doucet recorded yet another double-double, leading Louisiana in rebounds, grabbing 13, and scoring 13 points.  Freshman guard Brandi Williams scored 15, scoring seven of her points at the free throw line going 7-for-8 from the line in a strong performance.  Fellow freshman guard Andrea Cournoyer added 10 points off the bench, to give Louisiana three scorers in double-digits.

Defensively, the Ragin' Cajuns were a force down low, taking four charges in the game and forcing 22 Auburn turnovers in the process.  Louisiana was also strong on the boards, grabbing 37 rebounds to Auburn's 38 going toe-to-toe with the Tigers.

DOUCET LEADS THE NATION: Averaging 14.6 rebounds per game, Doucet currently sits first in the country in rebounds per game.  She has been a force all season long, including grabbing a school-record 22 rebounds at McNeese State on Nov. 11 in Lake Charles, La.  In terms of total rebounds grabbed, Doucet has 73, which puts her ninth in the NCAA, and she is third in defensive rebounds per game averaging 10.0.

THE DOUCET SPECIAL: In the first five games of the season, Doucet has gotten a double-double in each game, giving her five to start the season.  While that ranks her fourth in the nation in terms of double-doubles, Doucet is in special company when it comes to recording double-doubles in each game played to start the season, she is one of three women in the country to have recorded a double-double in every game played thus far this season.

FRESHMEN HAVE BEEN BUSY: Louisiana's four freshmen have been important cogs in Louisiana's offense so far this season, with all four getting significant playing time over the first five games.  Williams had led the way, starting four of the five games averaging 11.2 points per game and shooting 34 percent, which are both the second-best numbers on the team in each respective category.

Cournoyer has scored consistently as well, averaging 8.0 points per game, while starting three-of-five games this season.  She is leading the team in three-point field goal percentage (33 percent) and is third in field goal percentage (39.5 percent).

Diamond Morrison and Jazmyn Womack have also been contributing as well, with Morrison averaging 6.4 points per game, starting the last two games.  While Womack has started one game thus far and is second on the team in blocks with two.

WHAT THE ISLANDERS BRING: Texas A&M Corpus-Christi dropped its previous game to the Sun Belt Conference's Texas State, 60-53, on Nov. 26.  The Islanders got 22 points from Tasia Foman and 16 points from Alexis Bryant, while blocking four shots in the game.  The Islanders were in the game through the first half, but a 16-9 third quarter from Texas State as the difference for the Bobcats on their way to victory.

Dalesia Booth is leading AMCC in scoring, averaging 11.3 points per game.  Joining Booth is Foman (11.0 ppg) and Bryant (10.5 ppg) giving the Islanders three scorers in double-digits.  Uri Jolivette is coming off the bench to lead AMCC in rebounding, averaging 5.0 rebounds per game and Foman is leading the team in shooting percentage, shooting at a clip of 43 percent.

As a team, AMCC is shooting 38.5 percent from the field, and 28.6 percent from three-point range.  They are scoring 62.8 points per game, while holding their opponents to 56.8 points per game.  Where AMCC excels is in moving the ball, averaging 12.3 assists per game and they are stealing the ball at a clip of 9.0 steals per game.

WHAT THE VAQUEROS BRING: UT Rio Grande Valley won the last game it played before entering the weekend at home, beating St. Thomas (TX), 74-43, on Nov. 25.  In the game UTRGV had four finish in double-figures with Madison Northcutt scoring 14 points to lead the way.

UTRGV will play Prairie View A&M on Friday, Nov. 30, before facing Louisiana on Dec. 1.

Entering the weekend at 3-3, UTRGV is led in scoring by Idil Turk, who is averaging 11.7 points per game.  Northcutt is leading the team in rebounding, with 10.0 rebounds per game, while she is also leading the team in field goal percentage shooting 52.5 percent.

UTRGV is scoring 65.0 points per game, while holding teams to 54.7 points per game, giving the Vaqueros a scoring margin of +10.3.  With a +3.7 rebounding margin, averaging 41.3 rebounds per game, and a +5.3 turnover margin, averaging 9.2 steals per game, UTRGV enters the weekend having won two out of its last three games.
