Louisiana closes out four-match stretch of contests with Sun Belt East foes
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball hosts Troy and South Alabama in Sun Belt Conference action at historic Earl K. Long Gym the weekend of Oct. 5-6.
The weekend set begins with the Dig Pink match vs. Troy on Friday, then concludes Saturday with Girl Scout Night against South Alabama. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
Admission the entire weekend – and throughout the season – is free, courtesy of attendance sponsor I Love Kick Boxing.
Louisiana (9-9, 1-3 Sun Belt) is back at homefor the first time since Sun Belt-opening weekend (Sept. 21-23. The Ragin' Cajuns are wrapping up a stretch of four straight games against Sun Belt East Division foes.
Both the Trojans (6-11, 0-4 Sun Belt) and Jaguars (7-10, 1-3 Sun Belt) are appearing at Earl K. Long Gym for the first time since the 2016 season.
The Ragin' Cajuns seek to halt a three-match losing streak. Last weekend the squad had a pair of near-misses on the road, falling in four sets at Coastal Carolina and five sets at Appalachian State.

Louisiana returned five starters from the 2017 season highlighted by three returning All-Sun Belt Conference performers in middle blocker Dree'Ana Abram, libero Sydney Davis and 2017 SBC Freshman of the Year Hali Wisnoskie.
The Ragin' Cajuns added a talented group of eight newcomers headlined by freshmen Kelsey Bennett (5-11, OH, Allen, Texas) and Desiree Johnson (5-11, RS, Forney, Texas) who have been inserted into the rotation. Louisiana is utilizing a 6-2 offense for the first time in the Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot era with setters Avery Breaux and Milayne Danna directing the offense.

Louisiana travels to Arkansas Oct. 12-13 for Sun Belt Conference road matches. The Ragin' Cajuns will be in Jonesboro on Friday to face Arkansas State and in Little Rock on Saturday. Both matches are slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.

- The Ragin' Cajuns are one win shy of recording double digit wins for the seventh time in the past nine seasons (since 2010 campaign).
- Middle blockers Nia Antoine and Dree'Ana Abram have reached double digits in kills three times in the first four outings of Sun Belt play.
- After the first two weekends of SBC action, Nia Antoine leads Louisiana with 45 kills on a .340 hitting percentage.
- Libero Sydney Davis owns 92 career matches of double-digit digs. Her present career digs total stands at 1,785 which places her within 79 digs of surpassing Lindsay Brown's rally scoring era record total (1,863).
- Freshman right side hitter Desiree Johnson has reached (or surpassed) the five-kill mark in 15 consecutive matches (streak dates back to Aug. 31 vs. Mississippi Valley).
- Dree'Ana Abram enters the weekend four blocks shy of reaching the 200-mark in her career.
- Last Sunday at Appalachian State, senior Hanna Rovira recorded the 500th kill of her career. Rovira, who also reached her 100th dig of the season that day, hit the 100-mark in a season for the first time.
- Hali Wisnoskie is coming off her Sun Belt-play season-high of 16 kills recorded last Sunday at Appalachian State. She has reached double digits 13 times this season and 31 times overall.
- The Ragin' Cajuns have hit above .200 in 12 of the season's 18 matches and ranks fifth in the Sun Belt Conference with a .216 hitting percentage.
