Louisiana to wrap up regular season on April 14 at Rice

LAFAYETTE — Senior Coleman Wahlborg notched the first singles win of the day in his home finale, and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team jumped out to a 3-1 lead, but New Orleans came back to score three-straight singles victories and defeat Louisiana 4-3 on Friday at Cajun Courts.

Louisiana (13-11) won two-straight doubles matches, starting with the freshman team of Pearse Dolan and Elio Lago's shutout 6-0 win at No. 3. New Orleans (7-9) fought hard against the Cajuns seniors at No. 1, but at No. 2, the duo of Jamie Fraser and Arthur Libaud picked up the 6-2 win to clinch the doubles point, improving their doubles record this season to 14-3.

The singles matches were competitive on both sides. Four out of six matches went three full sets, and one ended in a tiebreak.

Nicolas Kramer tallied the first point for the Privateers, leading off singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Lago at No. 4. But Wahlborg soon tied the singles score with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6, bringing his singles winning streak to four matches.

Fraser, extending his singles winning streak to three matches, defeated Luis Albuquerque 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 5 to give the Cajuns a 3-1 overall lead. But after that, the Privateers took over, winning all three remaining matches in three sets.

After dropping the first set, Vlad Kramarov won the second before Federick Staksrud picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 3. Libaud won the first set in his match at No. 1, but Jeffrey Hsu tied the score at 3-3 with his 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory.

The final point was decided on Court 2, where Federico Boscarino came back to defeat Dolan in a close match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Louisiana plays its final regular season match in Houston against No. 37-ranked Rice on Friday (April 14).
