Cajuns Come Up Short At No. 38 Rice In Regular-Season Finale

Louisiana to open SBC Championships next Friday in New Orleans
HOUSTON – Eric Perez and Coleman Wahlborg earned a 6-4 victory over Rice's Tommy Bennett and Emanuel Llamas at No. 1 doubles, but the No. 38th-ranked Owls claimed a tiebreaker at No. 2 to claim the doubles point before earning three straight-set victories in singles play for a 4-0 win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team on Friday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Louisiana, which will compete in the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships beginning on Thursday in New Orleans, ended the regular-season with a 13-12 record.
Rice (20-6), which earned its 16th win in its last 17 decisions, opened doubles play as Eric Rutledge and Daniel Warren earned a 6-2 win over Louisiana's Elio Lago and Pearse Dolan at No. 3.
The Ragin' Cajuns evened doubles play as Perez and Wahlborg picked up their ninth win in dual matches with a 6-4 win at No. 1. The tandem of Henrik Munch and David Warren would eventually clinch the doubles point for Rice by posting a 7-6 (7-4) win over Arthur Libaud and Jamie Fraser at No. 2.
Llamas opened singles play for Rice with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Fraser at No. 5 before David Warren earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lago at No. 3. Rutledge would clinch the match for Rice at No. 4 after earning a 7-5, 6-1 win over Vlad Kramarov.
Wahlborg, playing at No. 6 singles, claimed the first set (7-5) in his match against Munch before the match ended at 3-3. Jamie Malik, playing at No. 1 for Rice, rallied from a 4-2 deficit in the opening set to defeat Libaud in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-2), before Libaud led 4-3 in the second.
