Louisiana To Wrap Up Regular Season At No. 38 Rice

Cajuns to begin play at SBC Championships on April 21
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team will wrap up its 2017 regular season on Friday when it heads west to Houston to face No. 38-ranked Rice at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Louisiana (13-11), which will begin play at the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships on April 21, dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to New Orleans in its last match on April 7.

Jamie Fraser and Arthur Libaud, playing at No. 2 doubles, improved to 15-3 overall for the Ragin' Cajuns in dual matches with a 6-2 win over UNO's Jeffrey Hsu and Nicolas Kramer before the freshman tandem of Pearse Dolan and Elio Lago clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 win over Giacomo Adoncecchi and Luis Albuquerque at No. 3.

Fraser and Coleman Wahlborg each picked up victories in singles play for the Ragin' Cajuns with Libaud, Dolan and Vlad Kramarov each extending their singles matches to three sets.

Libaud has posted a 13-7 record in dual matches to lead Louisiana with Fraser going 11-7 in his freshman season. Wahlborg, one of two seniors on the team, has won his last four contests and improved to 8-10 overall in dual matches.

Wahlborg and Eric Perez, who have earned wins this season over tandems from nationally-ranked programs Oklahoma State, Florida State and Georgia State, have posted a 10-10 record during the 2016-17 season, including an 8-7 mark in dual matches.

Rice (19-6) had its eight-match win streak snapped last Sunday in a 4-1 loss at No. 28 Tulane. The Owls, who opened the season with four straight victories, rebounded from a three-match losing skid early in the season by claiming 15 of their next 16 matches.

Eric Rutledge, ranked No. 20 overall in the ITA Texas Region, is 15-4 in dual matches for the Owls with Jake Hansen (14-5), David Warren (12-5), Emanuel Llamas (11-2) and Oscar Janglin (10-3) part of a lineup that has won 72 percent of its singles matches this spring.

The doubles team of Warren and Tommy Bennett, ranked No. 50 nationally in the latest Oracle/ITA Division I Collegiate Rankings, has posted an 8-3 record in dual matches for the Owls. Rutledge and Hansen ranked 10th in the ITA Texas Region, have posted a 12-5 record (10-4 at No. 3) in dual matches for Rice.
