Final tuneup for Ragin' Cajuns heading into SBC Championships
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns track and field team makes its final tune-up prior to competing in the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships when it heads to Natchitoches to compete in the Leon Johnson NSU Invitational on Saturday at the Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.

Action begins with field events at 10 a.m., before running event start at 1 p.m. Live results will be available at www.RaginCajuns.com.

Louisiana will join host Northwestern State in the meet by Lamar, McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Southern Arkansas, Alcorn State, Wiley College, Jarvis Christian and Texas College.

Several members of the Ragin' Cajuns will look to improve their rankings as Louisiana prepares to compete at the SBC Outdoor Championships, scheduled for May 12-14 in Arlington, Texas. Freshman Damon Guidry (men's high jump) and Ricky Theyard (men's triple jump) are ranked first in the Sun Belt Conference in their respective events with Hunter Stelly (men's javelin) and freshman Claire Meyers (women's javelin) ranked second among SBC athletes.

Senior Dionte Heath enters the meet ranked third overall for Louisiana in the men's high jump with Jacob Chicola (men's 3,000-meter steeplechase) and Stanley Limoh (5,000-meter run) each ranked fifth. The Ragin' Cajuns have two athletes – Kyle Baudoin (sixth) and Matt Wilson (seventh) – ranked in the top seven of the men's pole vault with Richard Delphin ranked seventh in the hammer throw and eighth in the discus.

Sprinters Hanoj Carter and Jeryl Brazil will each look to improve their standing for the Ragin' Cajuns in the men's 100-meter dash where Carter is ranked sixth and Brazil ninth. Senior Kayla Thompson enters the meet for Louisiana ranked 10th in the women's 100-meter dash and 11th in the 200-meters.

Meyers, who posted a throw of 147-2 in the javelin last week at the LSU Alumni Gold, leads a group of athletes for the Ragin' Cajuns on the women's side ranked among the top eight in the Sun Belt Conference in their respective events.

In the women's pole vault, Meredith Driskell and Alexa Johnson, are each ranked sixth in the league with Tamela Young ranked sixth in the SBC in the shot put. Taylor Walker enters the meet ranked eighth in the SBC in the women's triple jump for Louisiana with Chelcie Sonnier ranked eighth in the javelin.
