Cajuns Drop Hard Fought Contest To Top-Seeded Panthers In SBC Tournament

Libaud finishes with team-high 16 wins in singles play for Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS – Arthur Libaud earned a three-set 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Zackery Kennedy at No. 1 singles while the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team claimed the doubles point, but top-seeded and No. 37-ranked Georgia State claimed four singles matches and claimed a 4-2 victory at the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championships on Friday at City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center.
 
The freshman tandem of Pearse Dolan and Elio Lago clinched the doubles point for Louisiana (13-13) at No. 3 doubles with a 7-6 (7-4) win over Quentin Coulaud and Felipe Jaworski. Libaud, who was named a second-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection on Thursday, played his second three-set match this season against Kennedy, ranked No. 84 in the country in the ITA Rankings.
 
Libaud and Jamie Fraser forced a deciding match in doubles after defeating Georgia State's Sebastian Acuna and Jack MacFarlane at No. 2, 6-3. GSU (17-6) opened doubles play with a win at No. 1 as Kennedy and Andrei Andrukhou earned a 6-4 victory over the tandem of Eric Perez and Coleman Wahlborg.
 
Sebastian Acuna gave GSU a 2-0 lead as he defeated Wahlborg at No. 5, 6-3, 6-1, before Andrukhou earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Dolan at No. 2. Jannis Koeke increased the GSU lead to 3-1 after he claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over Vlad Kramarov at No. 3 before Coulaud clinched the match for the Panthers with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Fraser at No. 4.
 
Fraser and Libaud capped off a successful first season as a doubles tandem for Louisiana with an overall 18-5 record and 16-4 mark in dual matches. Libaud posted a team-best 16-9 record in singles play for the Ragin' Cajuns with a 14-7 record during the spring.
